Is the PATH Train running reliably?

NWK-WTC HOB-WTC JSQ-33 HOB-33

Some Interesting March Departure Data

June 15, 2019

A while back, a user sent me some data on trips between Harrison and 33rd street. I meant to post it a long time ago and then forgot about it. I've just now formatted the data and decided to share it with all of you, to get a glimpse into the real world reliability of riding the PATH.

Keep in mind that this data is from March and April when both the NWK-WTC and JSQ-33 had "above average" months compared to their usual.

Here is the morning commute data:

Here is the evening commute data:

As we can see, even this small sample size reflects the data I've been collecting. The evening commute is much quicker and smoother compared to the morning commute. An average morning commute took 23 minutes, a minute longer than the advertised 22 minute trip at the time (this has since been increased to 23 minutes) on the JSQ-33 line.

Both the wait times and the trip from Journal Square to Harrison (and vice versa) seem reasonable and well within the schedule. Once again, there are fewer outliers during the evening commute again.

During this time period, the PATH service was fairly reliable - but those minutes lost every morning on the JSQ-33 can start to add up. And this wasn't even a time period with many delays.
